Postage stamp depicts the scientist and ecologist Rachel Carson who wrote Silent Spring. Stamp is on manila envelope background. She wrote a controversial book about pesticides and was recognized posthumously by President Carter who awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She died in 1964.
