Artist's Description
The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, Hartford, Connecticut, commemorates the Civil War. The arch features a detailed terracotta frieze featuring soldiers retuning to Hartford after the American Civil War. The Greek style frieze is over a Roman style arch spanning two Norman style towers with angels playing musical instruments on top. It is an eclectic architectural design. The monument was dedicated in 1986 and is said to be one of the first memorials to use the term civil war.
