Photograph of the worn toe of statue of 19th Yale University President Theodore Dwight Woolsey, president of Yale from 1846 to 1871. The toe of the shoe was touched and rubbed by many people over the years making it smooth and shiny. Tourists still do it. The statue was an alumnus gift in 1896. Visitors to New Haven will want to find this well-known landmark during a tour of the Yale campus.
