Description
Pahreah, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Location is near the Mormon established settlement of Pahreah, Utah, now a ghost town since 1912. You would not know it looking at it now, but the town was abandoned because of flooding. Many Western films were later made around here. We took a long, wash-boarded dirt road to get to this location. The geology of banded strata is amazing and varies in appearance with the the kind of light. This was late afternoon. During midday, the colors tend to be flat. This is a beautifully detailed vertical landscape--a change from all the horizontal ones.
