Artist's Description

From the British Library website: "This 1826 illustration shows Mahomed's Baths on the Brighton seafront. Din Muhammad, an Indian officer of the Company's Bengal Army, traveled to Britain in 1784. In 1812 he opened a bath-house in which he offered what he dubbed 'the Indian Medicated Vapour Bath' (it had Indian medicinal herbs added to the vapour) and 'Shampooing with Indian Oils'."

This illustration of the building suggests the success of the business venture. Image taken from "Shampooing or Benefits Resulting from the use of Indian Medical Vapour Bath" Second edition. Originally published in Creasy & Baker: Brighton, 1826.
