Description
This controversial monument is at the Harper's Ferry National Park in West Virgina. It was erected by the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) to memorialize Heyward Shepherd, a black man and the first person killed during John Brown's raid on the town in 1859.
