This statue overlooks the location of a farm lane where many soldiers died in 1862 during the American Civil War. It was the bloodiest one day battle in United States history. The statue is titled "The Color Bearer."
The statue atop of the 132nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Monument looks over the Sunken Road (Bloody Lane) at the Antietam National Battlefield. The statue was dedicated on September 17, 1904. The photographic effects add character to the image. Please see my close-up this monument.
