The restored fountain statue promoting temperance. More information here: http://rockvillect.org/Cogswell/dedication.htm
Unlike other New England Towns that have a Civil War Statue, Vernon's Rockville section has a statue of someone offering a drink of water and holding a temper-ance pledge in the other hand.
The original statue was sold for scrap during World War II. From the article: "Dr. Henry Cogswell was a San Francisco dentist and philanthropist, and a native of Tolland. In 1883, Cogswell erected a fountain in honor of his cousin, William T. Cogswell, in Rockville Central Park. Dr. Cogswell was an advocate of prohibition and the Temperance Movement, which pledged that individuals abstain from the use of alcohol."
